Help us save the critically endangered Blue-throated Hillstar

We need YOUR votes to secure €30,000 in funding to help our partner Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco in protecting the critically endangered Blue-Throated Hillstar and its precious habitat in South Ecuador.

In 2017, a new hummingbird species, Blue-Throated Hillstar, was discovered in the high-elevation grasslands in an isolated mountain range in South Ecuador. With only 80-110 adults left, the Blue-Throated Hillstar is on the brink of extinction. Together with our partner Fundación Jocotoco and the local communities, we aim to protect this species by protecting the valuable Páramo grasslands they thrive in.

If we win EOCA’s funding vote, we aim to protect the critically endangered Blue-throated Hillstar species by protecting the valuable páramo grasslands they thrive in. How?

  • Providing funding to our local partner Fundación Jocotoco to safeguard the Hillstar’s crucial unique habitats.
  • Creating a sustainable tourism plan to protect these vulnerable sites and provide local communities with a more stable income.
  • Initiating a reforestation campaign to restore habitat for the Blue-throated Hillstar and safeguard the drinking water sources of local communities

Every vote brings us one step closer to making a positive impact on our planet, help us spread the word! Share the Blue-throated Hillstar project page and follow, like, and comment on Habitats’ social media to encourage others to vote. Together, we can ensure a thriving future for the Páramo hummingbird for generations to come. #SaveTheBlueThroatedHillstar
